What I did when I started out with eyeshadow was to take a matter eyeshadow a little darker then my skin tone, so for me thats a light brown, then I applied it to my crease and blend it upwards a bit!
If you have a hard time determining where your crease is, then you can open you eye slightly and then the crease will appear (did that make sense?) After the crease color I take a darker shadow, whatever color you like and darken up the outer part of my lid. I apply it to the outer V and blend it about half way on on your lid, and also put a little more in the crease with blending it upwards. Lastly I apply a light color to the inner part of my eye and blend it together with the darker color so there's no hard lines :) Lastly you can highlight your very inner corner I thi Ithat really pulles the look together :)
Hope that helped a little :)
