I have dry skin and acne and when I apply foundation I think it looks bad because I still see my pores in natural sunlight
it also looks dry and cakey
I wash and prime and use a sponge and I still think it looks cakey and bad

If you have dry and acne prone skin I would wonder what you're using for skin care. You may have dehydrated skin which may cause the caking effect.

As far as foundations go I would try Lorac cc cream either as a foundation under. If you are using as foundation use concealer for blemishes and set with prestige brand powder (if you are doing drug store anything I'd recommend NYX).

I don't recommend the St Ives apricot scrub, the seeds in it are jagged and will cause micro tears in your skin. As for foundation, I have really dry skin and I find exfoliating does help but you need to gage how much your skin can handle, I use a daily gentle exfoliant but that could be irritating your acne and spreading bacteria. I don't like using a sponge when my skin is in its dryer state, as I find it really soaks up the oils and leaves me with just pigment which isn't the most flattering when you need that bit of extra emollient. I find that a buffing brush or dense flat top kabuki tends to do the trick

I would also get a foundation brush and make sure to wash it weekly. Hope it help!

I wouldn't use a foundation brush. I have dry skin also and I've tried about everything to apply my foundation. A foundation brush is my least favorite since you can basically see the brush strokes on your skin. I started using my fingers since this week and I'm loving the results. I do still apply concealer and liquid highlighter with my beauty blender but for foundation, I will stick to fingers until I find a better foundation to apply with brushes.

What foundation are you using? I have dry skin and matte foundations tend to look dry and cakey.

How many times a week do you use St Ives? If it's more than twice a week, that could cause you to have even drier skin. Since it's an exfoliater, it takes away excess oil and dead skin. It could be drying out the new skin. I use it, but not excessively. It can be good in moderation :)

Try a primer. If you can find a very moisturizing one, it will help a lot. It will cause pores to disappear as well as helping the makeup look less cakey.

100% pure has a luminous primer that is so awesome on my skin. I have combo skin but dehydrated... I am also using their skin care which helps a TON but this primer is pretty amazing. I sound like I'm exaggerating but I'm just beyond happy that my foundation doesn't look like burnt dried cake on my skin anymore.

I use revolon colorstay and I don't use St Ives everyday just once a week.

I use equal amounts of coconut oil mixes with Tea Tree oil as a spot treatment on blemishes.
