I bought two pairs of sweats. One is a black flare from Aeropostale and one is a blue pair that cinches at the ankle from hollister. I see girls wearing sweats and looking so cute. But whenever I put them on I feel kinda dumpy. It might be psychological because I was raised to never wear sweats in public. But they're so comfy and it would make college life a lot easier. Does anyone have any tips? Maybe some pointers on making them more dressed up or polished looking.

I always believe in a messy bun and slide on tennis shoes or Toms with an oversized sweater/sweat shirt or tee. Then a winged liner or smoky eye, and glossy lips to look the best with them.

For the cinxhed ankles I wear them with a tight fitting shirt & some high top sneakers.

I don't think you can really dress up sweats... Like you said they are made for comfort not to look polished... If they are black they can come off looking like leggings if they fit tightly - I wear yoga pants often with a boot cut leg so they look like black pants and if it's cold I just wear boots and a pea coat and it works but still doesn't look polished to me personally

I would wear a messy bun a white v neck with like a acid jean jacket and some sneakers :)

I really mean how do I wear them without looking dumpy. More like I'm comfy than I don't care. I love the idea of wearing a nicer make up look with them Angel C. And the messy bun and a more form fitting shirt sounds the best. I also like the pea coat idea.

You can add different textures to the outfit like jean or leather.
If you have the right pair of sweats that are tighter at the bottom, you could also wear boots with a heel or different kind of shoes apart from normal tennis shoes (I agree that usually they look the best though). > But it's all about experimenting
But for me, personally, the mixing textures and adding enough colour either with a jacket, a vest or a scarf is helpful. I also agree on put-together-makeup and a messy bun or a nice "messy" volumed hair style.
Jewellery doesn't hurt either, I believe that it can lift up any outfit, when paired correctly.

In my opinion, sweats are only for lounging and yoga. That's also how I was raised and it does make sense to me.
