I have incredibly thick, curly, frizzy and unruly hair. It is such a process after the shower, before bed and in the morning to get ready and get it under control. I have looked into Keratin treatments, but I feel like that's kind of a last resort. Any tips would be great, or experiences with Keratin.

Try a daily keratin leave in conditioner, before trying a treatment to see if your hair reacts well to it. Joico makes a great one. There is a generic version at Sally's as well.

I loved the keratin treatment and I found that it really did wash out after 6 months

I have the same type hair and the John Fridea (lol I don't know if I spelled that right) products for curly hair work great!!

Tresseme keratin smooth saved my life pretty much haha. I use the shampoo and conditioner and my hair is so much more manageable and soft

I believe a sulfate free (and possibly ph-balanced) shampoo may help if you're not already using one. Regular shampoo tends to dry out your hair, and us curlies need moisture! I'm currently using Shea Moisture's moisture retaining shampoo and my hair was not frizzy even in the humidity of Miami and NOLA. Absolutely unexpected :)
Also, try and avoid temporary smoothing serums that are silicone based... It may look great at first but it will look worse in the long run!
Keratin treatment- do you mean like a brazilian blowout (obviously not "the" one since it has tons of harmful formaldehyde in it)? I had one done before but honestly I prefer having curly hair and I realized how much I missed it.
If by keratin treatment you mean a protein treatment that won't straighten your hair, I wouldn't use it a lot (once a month is enough) since you have very thick hair...it's a protein and it will strengthen your hair even more, making it a bit stiff even.
