You just kind of have to have the messy hair look to just throw it up but if you're looking for the pony tail to set of your head try putting bobby pins upward into the ponytail holder. Or tease the hair a little

I think teasing it will help a lot, and pulling pieces of hair out loosely once you've pulled it into the ponytail!

I mean tie it tight so it'll stay teased and whatnot.
