Why Does My Foundation Do This?

My foundation settles into my pores and ends up looking blotchy. I've tried sponges, brushes and even my fingers and it still ends up settling. I've used primers but they just turn me into an oil slick.

I know my foundation is too light. I did it so it showed up better on camera.

Maybe you need to try a different foundation? Some foundations won't work well with the texture of your skin. Do you have a good skincare routine? Exfoliate?

Try to just moisterize your skin before (not primer) and start to use a different foundation :)

You're skins probably too dry for it. Try moisturizing before you lay the foundation over if that doesn't work it could be the foundation not working with your skin type :)

Any suggestions on foundation? the one in the pic is loreal tru match. I normally have combo skin but it started to dry out in the winter. I got a slightly heavier moisturizer but it makes my skin feel too tacky even when I let it soak in for 20 minutes.

Try the Maybelline fit me dewy or the l'oreal true match lumi.

Neutrogena Healthy Skin Liquid Makeup is a lightweight foundation that I think would work nicely.

I have the same problem but I exfoliate my skin with a wash and then moisturize it and let that sit and then prime with a pore filling primer and I use naked skin foundation and it never looks like that anymore

It's not the foundation, You need a facial a deep cleaning( extraction) and after you do that the surface will be fine. The makeup is just sitting on top of the pore oils and it's just holding up that foundation which gives that look to the skin,it's like the foundation is just laying on top of the gunk that's in the pore like a blanket. No matter what product you try to use you'll have that issue until you get that stuff out.A pore filling primer is just that but only will work if it is on a clean pore surface to even be able to work when pressing it on other then that it will not hold up but basically produce more of a oil slick surface. :)

Have you tried a primer? That should help smooth out your skin so you'll have a good base to work with when you apply foundation!

I actually just made a video about this on my channel. try washing your face with the clean and clear oil control face wash, then start with powder before your foundation. I go into depth in my video if you have more questions. https://youtu.be/L2l3CEPe9NI.

Hi yes this is my first time. whenever I Google makeup questions this site pops up so I thought I'd give it a go! I wasnt impressed with the tru match so I'm changing back to my covergirl 3 in 1. I'm also going to switch moisturizers. thank you for all your advice!

Thanks! so I'm guessing if I switch to a water based moisturizer like neutrogena oil free it will work better?

If your foundation is settling into your pores like that it may mean your skin is either too dry or too oily for that product, next time you go to buy new foundation, check to see if it says normal to oily or normal to dry and purchase whichever one applies to your skin type. You know your skin better than anyone.

I found the tru match did the same to me. Foundations with a dewey finish seem to help me.
