Any drugstore box dye is going to damage your hair. They are one size fits all, and are generally too strong for normal hair coloring. The only way to have minimal damage is salon dye where they know what they're doing, or if you can go to Sally and buy developer and color it reduces damage by being able to be customized for your hair. 10 vol is for slight changes, 20 vol is for 2-4 shade shifts, 30 vol is for more than 5 shade shifts. I recommend using 20 vol as it's safest while working well. But the dye at Sally should say what developer to get or the staff will know by looking at your hair and the color you choose.
