Okie dokie ladies and gents, Im just curious, can freelance artist charge?

Im going to beauty school, got a call from a teacher saying that I cant charge and that if i get caught It could stop me from getting my cosmo lic. Made a FB page showing my work (work ive done with photographers), no where does it say im charging for my services. Am I in the clear?

You can charge if you are licenses with the state you live/work! And you shouldn't need a cosmetologist license, an esthetician's license should be sufficient. I mean yes, if you are not license and some one reports you, you could be looking at a lot of money in state fines. I would call your state health and licensing board to find out the laws. But I mean free lance makeup artists charge, how else would we make a living?! Best of luck!

No license I needed to practice makeup!
Freelance work is all you, you most definitely charge.. :)
@Gen B. is completely right, cutting, dying, are physically altering..you need your license for all of that!

Check your state. Where do you live?

It depends on ur states law. In Oregon u have to have an esthetics license, otherwise u will get it revoked, and a fine. So check online or call ur state board of cosmetology :) hope this helps!
