Jamie D.

Hi all! I was just about to let Jacqueline + Kitty know my impressions of the Viseart Palette on their profiles since they recommended it to me when I thought, why not make a thread about it?

Then I started thinking about all the great products I've bought in the past because of recommendations from this forum and decided to add them as well! I've purchased so many great things that I never would have known about without BL.

So here are my thoughts about everything (that I can remember) that I've bought because of Beautylish recommendations. Please add your own about products that you've bought because of BL as well. I'd love to hear them!

Products:

-Kevyn Aucoin The Sculpting Powder:
This is the only thing I will even consider contouring with. The pigmentation is great so I barely need to use any product. I'm not a person who contours on a daily basis, but this powder is the perfect cool-toned brown and it's such a silky formula. It truly mimics shadows...my cheekbones have never looked sharper!

-Hakuhodo Brushes:
Dang it Jacqueline, you have truly started a new Japanese brushes obsession! And for that I thank you! :) (But my wallet doesn't.) I never even used to care what brushes I used before, and now I find myself ogling them in my spare time. All of these brushes are super soft on the skin, blend things like a dream, and I don't think I could go back to anything else. They are a part of my everyday routine. I'll definitely be purchasing more in the future. (Reviews in left to right order based on photograph.)
J5522:
A super soft big fluffy blending brush. I love this for applying washes of color all over the lid on lazy days, as well as for adding a "transition color" or blending out shade to blend my crease up toward the brow bone seamlessly.
J146:
This is a smaller blending brush that I like for blending shadow underneath the lash line and for more precise placement of shadow in the crease. I'll also use this to blend things out if I'm trying to keep the blending centered in a small area.
J5523:
I know it's been said a dozen times, but this really does make my MAC 217 feel almost scratchy in comparison, and they serve basically the same purpose. It diffuses and blends color super easily, and it's good at applying color as well. All around great brush.
Sephora Collab. Angled Concealer:
I've heard some mixed reviews on this brush, but I actually think it blends out concealer beautifully. The size and angled shape is great for getting up under the eyes and around the nose. The only con is that it does soak up a lot of product. For me, it's actually useful, because I find it thins my concealer out just the right amount so that it keeps the coverage but prevents it from getting cakey later on. I just hate having to wash it so often.
B5521:
So freaking silky on the skin it's amazing. I love it for setting my undereye area as well as for applying highlighter to the tops of am cheekbones. It's the perfect shape for both.
J110:
This is marketed as a blush brush, but it's my dream bronzer brush. It applies it so evenly and diffuses it perfectly on my skin for the subtle application I enjoy. You could definitely build up color with it, but I just like to warm up my skin a bit and this lets me do it quick and easily.

-KVD Monarch Palette:
This was my first experience with Kat Von D eyeshadows, and I am throughly impressed. They remind me a bit of Lorac shadows, but with not as much fallout. They're buttery and pigmented, and I really like the color choices in this palette. I've never really been a warm orangey shadow person, but I feel like I'm going to get a lot of use out of this palette this fall. They're very autumn colors.

-RCMA Foundation:
Everything it's recommended as. Super pigmented, looks like skin, not like other foundations, etc. I mostly use this for special events or as stage makeup because I'm involved in my schools theatre productions. You definitely need to learn how to use it. I use it like Jacqueline does: I scoop some onto the back of my hand to warm it up, apply to my face, blend (light layers!), and then go back in anywhere I need concealing. I have no oil issues (except during performances it minorly acts up but that's under stage lights it hardly counts) and it looks great on my dry patches as well. I don't think that you "need" this for everyday life or anything, but if you have more major skin problems or something this is definitely a game changer that I'd recommend.

-Stila Liquid Lipsticks:
I've cheated on my Kat Von D, and I think I like the Stila better. The KVD are great, but the Stila smell amazing (I know, not really important but I love it), are less drying, and last just as long. They also emphasize my lines less which is good because my lips are almost always chapped. I don't know why it took me so long to try these.

-Viseart Neutral Matte Palette:
I believe Jacqueline's words were that these shadows "blend themselves" and I have to agree. I don't typically wear eyeshadow on the daily, but I've been making an exception just because this palette is such as pleasure to use. The best matte shadows I own for sure in terms of pigmentation, blendability, no fall out, etc. Is the $80 price tag worth it? Honestly I think it depends. I don't think I would buy this without a gift card or a sale or something, but I do think that once you pick it up you will absolutely love it.

Thanks for the reviews. I have been eyeballing those viseart palettes.

A few products I have bought from beautylish recommendations or things I have seen raved about on here are:

CeraVe Moisturizing lotion and cream. I still get occasional breakouts but this lotion has improved my skin texture and now I'm not oily anymore.

CeraVe Hydrating cleanser. This cleanser doesn't dry my skin out and doesn't leave it feeling stripped.

Foreo Luna Mini since kitty has liked it. I notice a huge difference with my skin when I stop using this to help cleanse my face. It saves so much money in the long run compared to the Clairsonic but performs just as well. My skin is sensitive and it hasn't irritated it.

Embroylisse Lait Creme Concentrate. This is the best lotion that helps with keeping skin dryness and flakes from not showing under my makeup. It smooths my skin so nothing clings to any dry patches.

I have bought a lot more but don't have the time to listen them all but a few other items that are also standouts have been hourglass veil primer, Mac fix+, jojoba oil, simple cleansing water, Tree Hut shea sugar scrub, The Body Shop body Butters, Baby bliss blow dryer.

Nikelle, the Stila lippies are fantastic! I can't recommend the brushes enough. And I'm convinced Jacqueline has some sort of makeup magic...it's really incredible.

Great review! I'm glad you're enjoying the Viseart palette, the quality is absolutely amazing.
I wouldn't dare post a Beautylish motivated review... it would make me feel a bit depressed to see where my money has all gone lol.

'I never even used to care what brushes I used before, and now find myself ogling them in my spare time'
Can I put this on a billboard?? I literally drank too much coffee one shift and was up at 2 in the morning just staring at my brush collection, to the point where I even washed them just to take a picture of them! Sometimes I'll just sit there and brush my chikuhodo brushes against my skin, so relaxing

Lol I'm convinced as well Jamie, I think she's the reason most know more about brushes or viseart here but sadly she doesn't get the credit sometimes. She literally had said the same thing about brushing her brushes against her skin and starring at them lol that's what a brush addict does. She has so many I've told her she could make a few coats to wear and look like Cruella Deville.:)

Kitty, I think all of us Japanese brush converts are guilty of just brushing our brushes against our skin, because I definitely do that too. Maybe it's contagious? ;) And I'm hoping I can convince someone to splurge on me and get me the Chikuhodo Passion Series set for my birthday in a few months. I'm also eyeing the Z3 and Z10...and that doesn't even count all the Hakuhodos I have on my list...I totally feel you about the "I spent so much money" depression. But, brushing brushes against my skin usually clears that feeling right up.

Alma, I would know nothing about brushes without Jackie! She deserves all the credit she can get. And omg, Jacqueline as Cruella Deville? I'm dying! Although I think it might be sacrilege to take apart such beautiful instruments just for a coat.

That's an awesome haul! The Viseart shadows seem so amazing I really want to invest in a palette.

Taylor, I don't think it's an investment you'd regret. :)

😂😂 Jacqueline I'm cracking up. And you're welcome! It's the least I can do for all the advice you give.

And Sandra, my plan was to get it at the 20% off Beauty Insider Sale at Sephora in November if I hadn't come into a gift card. If you can wait until then (you'd be more patient than I am lol) that's when I'd pick it up!

Oh my goodness that is just amazing! I wish I had access to these products. I have to agree with you on the RCMA foundation, I rarely use foundation but it's incredible! (When I visited the BL headquarters this August I bought the VK palette #11).
Viseart shadows- I need to get my hands on those but I don't think it'll be any time soon :)
And I'm jumping on the Japanese brush ride very soon- I placed an order :D
All because of BL- but you know what? I think that most people's makeup skills also improved greatly using this website so if that inspires you to get GOOD products, why the heck not, right? :)

Ugh, the VK palette is beautiful. I'd have no use for it, but that doesn't stop me from wanting it! And you're going to love the brushes!

Definitely my skills have improved because of BL! That's probably the most important effect; how could I forget? And I mean, I'm going to spend money on makeup regardless (I have no self control) so it might as well be the good stuff!
