Best affordable makeup brushes IMO are Real Techniques found at Ulta. (They are BOGO 50% at Ulta right now). You can literally get all of the essential makeup brushes you need for around or less than $50.
Check out the reviews, you will love them!

Sephora has good deals on brush sets sometimes. Target has reasonably priced ones as well.

I bought my set at crown brush.com amazing deals on big set! Now you do want to read reviews! I have ordered over a hundred brushes from them and most of them I have loved! A few were absolutely awful! Lol. But seriously they are s great deal!

Real Techniques in Boots are AMAZING, wait for 3 for 2 if you aren't in a rush, I'd highly recommend the expert face brush and the core face collection, I have £50 bobbi brown brushes but these are just as good and don't shed! Plus you get points : )

Estée Lauder has really good brushes.. But, if price is a deciding factor, I always go to michaels or hobby lobby and buy a huge package of paint brushes... Soooo much cheaper.
