I have really thick, coarse hair that is really long. I usually only wear it in ponytails because when it's down I look like a lion and when it's in French braids they puff out in a weird way. Any hairstyle you think would work for me?

Your hair sounds just like mine lol. I usually only wear my hair up when I work, and then I either do a basic braid or a messy top knot. But you should try wearing it down:) I used to hate mine but now I embrace it lol

Do you straighten your hair? This will help if you don't already. And if you do a french plait then do it when your hair isn't freshly washed and a bit greasy so it holds better. how about half up half down? :)

Any tips on getting it not coarse? My hair feels like hay sometimes and all my stylists say that I should straighten my hair but it's such a hassle to do a lot and I don't want to damage it.

Isabelle, thanks so much for the tip about French plaits. Whenever I do half up half downs my hair looks weird because it's frizzy on the bottom half. I'm such a mess!

First of all, name twinsies! Yay! I would reccomend a ballerina bun for a pretty everyday hairstyle 👍

I had the exact some problem with mine and I was told I should straighten mine (I went on an anti hair straighter crusade cos I was convinced my hair was damaged). try using an all in one frizz and heat protector. I use the John frieda frizz ease. If you don't straighten your hair and it feels like hay it's probably just the way your hair is and it's just growing through the roots like this. my hairdresser told me the only thing I could do was smooth my hair down with heat and frizz products

My hair is just like yours. I hated it and thats why I straightened it eeevery single day... then my hair was like dead... my curles were gone and I missed them so much. now they came back out but please don't straighten your hair often. sometimes its good so you look different but you should love your lion style and remember that a lot of girls envy your volume. I love ponytails but my hair puffs out like you said and thats why I use a bit gel to fix it. maybe it works for you :) (sry for my bad english I'm from spain)

I have the same thing. do braids, try to keep your hair down as much as you could. could try to take layers out, it gets the heavy feeling out , makes your hair feel lighter. don't try to put heat on your hair. I haven't never put heat on my hair. a good shampoo and conditioner.

Try Salon Selects hair mask and see if that helps with the coarseness. I used it on my hair because I had the same problem. I've used it a couple of times and I can really see and feel a difference. Also, try not to use a lot of heat.

This sounds just like mine😂 I braid mine after I shower so it is more tame and then I wear buns, pony tails, half pony tails whatever I want:)

I have dead straight hair and I would kill to have hair like yours, that's life! The best thing I have ever done has been to add Pro Naturals Hair Repair System to my haircare. I am convinced that the argan oil leave in treatment after every shampoo and before heat styling has protected my hair from heat damage. All of you with curly thick coarse hair should do what I do. Follow their regime and you will notice the difference.
