Abreva or campho phenique will numb it and help dry it out. I prefer the campho. It's cheaper and does the same as abreva, except it stops the itch much better and for longer, IMO. Don't mess with it or try to pop it, just put what you want to use on it and leave it alone or you risk spreading it. Like Stephany said, once it scabs over keep a Chapstick or lip balm on it, it does help it heal and lessens the discomfort.

I heard of this chapstick and if you keep using for about a week your cold sores will be gone. I think they sell it at Walmart.and flavored at Victoria secret.

Blot throught the day with cotton ball dipped in Hydrogen peroxide... it will dry it out fast... in between apply lip balm to sooth the skin.
