What colour should I dye my hair?

I've never dyed it before, and it's a natural light brown (slightly ginger in some lights) but I was thinking of going auburn or darker brown, even maybe ombreing it..?
Also, how should I dye it? Should I buy dye or should I get it done in a salon?
P.s I have to keep it a 'natural colour' for school:L

Okay thanks for the advice Sierra, that's really kind of you, thank you Taylor, and I was thinking about going blonde Amanda, but I think that wouldn't really suit me, and I'd probably have to bleach it or something
