Your not stupid, the ombre meaning shaded or shade. when a dark color fades into a light color or the other way around.

It's the current intentional look of a dye job that's growing out. I wore it like that from about '88 to about 2007. Thanks to dd I'm monochromatic now but I used to get tons of complements. I'd fade mine gradually.
