I've always had a passion for make up and now want to develop my skills professionally in the Toronto area.
Can anyone give me any advice on how to get started. I want to start with bridal and special occasion and then move into fashion. I currently have a full time job and can't go to school full time. Any tipa or advice you can give would be great.

As a makeup artist the best thing to do it go to school (keep that in mind better to be certified) however if there is no time just yet my best advice to you is start with friends an locals people you know. starting bridal is good but you can also start in pagent they always need makeup artist an try hairshows offer your services for the knowledge. its the best way to get into the fashion field that you want to get into.. if you need someone to talk to about this your more than welcome to let me know :)

Thanks so much for your feedback.. Do you know of any good part time certifications courses in the area? I found a few online but I'm not sure how reputable some of these are?

I'm a makeup artist who didn't go to school specifically for cosmetics. I have a background in fine art and fashion design, which definitely helps if you want to get into the industry. I would suggest you audition for a reputable brand like MAC, or Bare Escentuals, or Dior. Let the professionals already working in the field see where your skillset is and start working for them. I got my start in the industry by doing that, getting paid what I wanted and learned tons. Now I actually train makeup artists in addition to having a successful freelance career as well.
