As I was getting ready earlier, I started thinking about how much my collection has changed since I first started out with makeup. When I was younger, quality never really mattered to me--I was too excited about the fact that it was ~~omg makeup~~ to much care. A lot of my early stuff happened to be the super cheap stuff that I bought at the farmer's or flea markets or swap meets. I remember how -nothing- would ever go on smoothly, everything would crease and melt, and I can only imagine just how truly horrible I looked by the end of the day, lol. It took a while to get over that initial excitement and I still cringe a bit when looking back. Nowadays, I'm really happy with how my collection has progressed; I have a mix between drugstore and highend products, but now I have certain standards that things have to meet before I purchase them. I'm really picky about quality (a large cry from swap meet makeup!) and I'm more comfortable in specifically looking for that quality. Since first starting out, I've noticed that I've become pickiest on foundations and setting powders.
How did your makeup collection start? How has it progressed to what it is now? What are the largest differences between then and now? Are you happier with 'now'? What standards (if any) have you set up for yourself? Questions like that I'm curious about. :)

I am definitely happy about my collection now! Thinking back on my old make up and how I would apply it is almost painful! I never considered wether a color or application technique was flattering for me or not I just liked it and got it! I always wanted quantity over quality and I'm the complete opposite now, I have quite high standards for my make up now, and need to make sure I'm getting my money's worth even if the product is only 10$

I remember the only thing I ever had was green and purple eye shadow sticks from Avon. Black eye liner and mascara. That was the only thing I would wear. I have a very bad picture of me wearing foundation that made me at least 3 shades lighter and no one ever told me how horrible it was. Then I discovered eye shadows and everything was about my eyes. I spent so much time learning how to blend. Then I found my correct shade of foundation. And everything just escalated from there to primers moisturizers setting spray setting powders. Consealers blush bronzer highlighter brightner toner... and of course brushes. I can go on and on. But one thing I have never liked was lipstick. I couldn't even put it on if I tried.

@Jacqueline "wow amazing" I still young and my collection has not meet to your standard. I'm now at the point where things are getting bumped in the trash. I'm in my late 20's what are some things that a person should have in their collection?

I remember how I used to just wear whatever I thought was cute! At the time, I didn't know how to pick things that actually work with my skin tone. So I started experimenting with drugstore and Avon products. Then, when I got more money I started going crazy in Sephora! Now I realize that makeup doesn't have to be expensive to be good quality. So I shop for drugstore products, but I'm still looking for quality. I like to use a mix of drugstore and high end, and I'm still learning an experimenting, but that's part of the fun of makeup:

I'm thinking of my first major collection I had in my mid-20's...it was loaded with MAC because at the time it was pretty great brand and I was happy with everything I picked up. I only had "safe" colors from MAC and then I had a lot of Bobbi Brown as well. During that time of my life I was working in conservative companies and there was no way I could walk into the office with MAC candy yum yum lips.lol. Fast forward to now...I'm self-employed and I can wear whatever I want. My collection still has "safe colors" but I also have wild colors as well. I have way more drugstore products this second time around because they amped up their quality and color selection. I think the amount of makeup that I own has to be the largest to date since I often buy two of everything...one to leave at my house and another to leave at my MIL house where I spend a lot of time visiting and I hate having to pack a make-up bag everytime I spend a few days there. I'm very happy with how I progressed from safe to not playing by anyone's rules and wearing colors that make me happy.
