Is hair dye permanently damaging?

I want to dye my hair, but I'm not sure if it will cause permanent damage. I have virgin hair, so I don't want to dry it out and get split ends. 😧

I've died and bleached my hair a million times, and the first few times so damage was done (to me at least). try to stay away from bleach, it DOES ruin your hair. mine is in horrible condition from bleach and lots of hair dye. :(

My natural Colour is dark brown, and to due it any colour you have to use bleach, I dyed my virgin hair, and had to cut off over 15 inches of my hair off. Really upsetting, it tried my hair out and made it ratty, I'm now in the process of growing it back to how it was before.

I think It really depends on the dye/brand you use.
I used to bleach my hair a lot a few years ago and my hair was really damaged. But now I used a diffrent bleach. that shouldn't damage your hair, and my hair actually isn't damaged..

and they have diffrent henna and other dyes that are said to bot be damaging.
