I am looking for a rich brown that won't damage my hair. Any thoughts??

Go with an ammonia free semi-permanent (level 2) color, and pick 2 shades up from what you really want. If you don't like it, it will wash out. If you henna your hair, you will basically never be able to use traditional dye on that part of your hair again. You have to wait till it grows out completely if you want to do something other than henna (like lightening, highlights, etc.).

I went with l'oreal healthy look 4a, cool chestnut brown. It came out much darker than I anticipated, but I love it! Thanks for the input!

Henna. but remember henna generally has red tones in it.
