Hi, I'm currently 17 and am very interested in starting a career in makeup! I was originally thinking about going to cosmetology school so I could work as a hair stylist and makeup artist inside of a salon then go to college for a bachelors in music. I mainly want to do makeup, and I have read and heard from actual hair stylists that they barely go into makeup, which concerns me. Basically, I'm afraid being a makeup artist won't turn out well or make me enough money to live decently (my family is in massive debt and I don't want to end up like them). Any advice?

You can do cosmetology school and then take some more advanced makeup classes on the side. MAC offers some grat one day pro classes and many other schools like Cinema and CMC offer full programs as well as individual classes to fit your specific needs :)

It sounds like you have a good outline what you want to do. If makeup/ hairstyling is your passion and you want to emphasize on makeup then do so :). Like Hannah said you can take pro classes/workshops to further your education. Also youtube is free!! Considering that you're going into music you can do that as well. you can do makeup part time and tutor/teach music full time/ pt. just keep your head in there, if you can now, you can tutor local kids for some cash to help you start saving, when there is a will there is a way. my family is in debt too and I get extra cash from recycling, I use that to buy stuff I need for myself or my mua kit. that exta 20 bux comes in handy. hope that helps!!
