Since you part your hair to your right, my left...I would say to get it on your left side. That way, it's seen better.
And the old saying went..left is right, and right is wrong (meaning gay for guys piercing their ears). Not that it matters much anymore...

I would go with whatever your dominant hand is...makes cleaning and caring for your piercing much easier.
