Applying eye liner wrong

OK. I'm in this bad habit of pulling my upper lid a little when applying eye liner. know it's not good to pull skin in that area. anyone have any tips or tricks. I usually use pencil eyeliner BTW. Thx to all responses!!!  Natasha
