Hope this isn't out of place. How would one come to define themselves as alternative?
Feb 4, 2013
Valkyrie F.
@Karen, of course not and that's a very good question. To me I believe being alternative means not going with main stream fashion or lifestyle. It's very expressive and fun. However, you'll get many different answers for that question. It depends on the person you ask but, that's how I feel on the subject. I hope that helps a little bit. Any other questions, don't be afraid to ask. :)

Hey, I'm not a goth but would like to think I fit in the alternative as I love standing out!! Love piercings and funky hair and just anything different :)

Valkyrie F.
Heyya Jodie! Yeah, that's great! Standing out from the mass majority is the best way to be, I think. :)

I know I don't look like it...but I've always identified that way, just haven't had the budget to pull it off. I prefer a sweeter look with dark edges...like a doll. I love dark things and gothic and victorian styles, steampunk and horror are big parts of my life. The way I see it is you never know who someone is by first glance. The sweetest faces can be the most disturbed and I love it.

Rockabilly/pinup style girl over here!

@Ali, I totally understand what you mean. All gothic clothes can be on the pricey side. A good alternative is to go thrift/charity shopping. You can find some real beautiful clothing there. I love that concept too. I just love all things dark and twisted. You sound like my type of gal! Tehe!
@Patricia, nice one! I love that look. I wish I could pull it off. Looking fab-u-lous!

Hiya! Definitely not super goth anymore but an alternative-ish girl over here. I've been obsessed with dying my hair every color of the rainbow since I was tiny.

Karen M.
Valkyrie F., Thanks. I've had a few friends who identified with being alternative but I've never asked. I guess it all comes down to POV. At times I feel relate to alternative and at times I don't. I guess by your (and my) definition, it also depends on how you define mainstream. I'm just used to people around me who consider themselves alternative also identifying with more specific subculture too.
Moral of the story: Do you! lol

I am definitely anything but mainstream or ordinary!
I don't think I quite identify with any of these goth labels or anything in particular, but I am studying to become a mortician which most people find to be spooky =P

I love being myself. I like the rock style and I love listening to ACDC and Kiss. I don't particularly think I fit into any 'identity label', just be yourself I say!

Valkyrie I think you started a goth trend on Beautylish talk forums because I'm seeing questions about goth. :-) I'm just glad people are talking thanks.
