I really, really need some help.. Lately I've developed a mannerism of touching and picking my face whenever my hands have nothing to do.. It started with pimples, smaller pimples until even a small bump becomes a big issue that I have to pick.. The problem with this is the blemishes are getting bigger and bigger.. And since the face area is just small, the mannerism is spreading now to my back! I know there's a name for this illness and more related to psychological disorder but as much as possible, I wanted to try finding some home cures for this before considering getting some professional treatment.. Please help!

Wear glove (s)? At least that would be a distraction enough that if you're unconsciously picking at your skin, you'll realize when the glove makes it difficult for you to do it that you shouldn't be doing it. Oh and cut your nails short. Just do anything that obstructs your picking.

@em actually I think my blemishes are already irritated because I kept on scratching old wounds.. Old wounds refreshen up because of the scratch making an old wound even bigger.. :(

@coco I tried using gloves it kinda work. The painful part is when I need to use my iphone.. I take it off and I forget to put it back on.. I tried sleeping with sheet masks too. Seem to work but I'm afraid that it would give me breakouts because of too much nutrients that the sheet masks would give.. I keep my nails short too, to prevent myself from scratches but still, I do get some from time to time.

I've actually been going through the same thing where when my pimples dry out and feels like scabs I tend to pick at them just so I don't feel how rough it is but it just ends up makin me break out more and them I get yelled at by my Dermatologist. A friend of mine started to get her nails done with acrylics and got them rounded so it was hard for her to scratch and pick. It didn't work for me but it worked great for her. Maybe that can help you :-)

If you really CANT stop then be sure to always keep your hands and face clean to minimize the size of the blemishes.

I used you pick my face all the time!! I stopped by getting rid of my acne because then there was nothing to pick! I bought a clarisonic and using that completely cleared up my face.

@kaley that's the problem.. I dont really have acnes... I just scan my face with my fingers and any bumps I encounter, I try to take it out. It's an annoying habit, honestly.. :(

Sit on you're hands when you feel like picking.

I've come up with an idea. How about you get a sheet of bubble wrap and have it handy. Pop the bubbles to replace your picking habit. Yea it might get annoying but at least you wouldn't be hurting your skin. And this might be of interest, I haven't read it so I don't know if there's any useful info http://www.beautylish.com/t/ixawq/dermatilomania-skin-picking-disorder.
