Do we do make up for the love of feeling good and artistic or because of the media's beauty standards ?

I am a beauty and make up lover. Love the feeling of doing my make up daily; it feels like therapy. But for my curiosity; do we love make up because of it's just an art or because we are trying to fit to that "Beauty images" set by the media and our society?
