Does washing your hair daily damage your hair, or stunts hair growth?

Hey guys, i wash my hair daily and I was wondering if it is damaging or even possibly stunts your hair growth??!
I weld daily and smoke on top of my naturally oily hair! After i shower I apply a heat protector, but is that not enough? 
Advice!?
