Blonde or Brunette? Help me out please

My natural hair color is a light Brown with blonde highlights and over the summer I used sun in and caused my hair to become a lighter color. As the roots grew in I hated it and died it (AT HOME) a lighter color. It came out really brassy and I hated it. The unintelligent lady at Sally Beauty Supply said to bleach highlights AT HOME to fix the brassiness. Well it didn't fix it. I'm contemplating going back to light brown. Or should I stay blonde?
