Tanning Advice For This Summer

I need tanning help! I want to get tan but I'm by sure the best way too... Usually I just "forget" to put on sunscreen... I know it's bad! When I get burnt it usually fades into a nice tan! But I don't want to damage my skin.... So what do I do to get a nice tan but not damage my skin? Please help!
