Acrylics or Gel?

My nails are so hard to tame! I have literally tried everything, from calcium nail polish, to nail strengtheners, even onions and argon oil, but they always break. I want to get acrylics but a lot of my friends have told me that their moms nails are soon thin and damaged now. I could get gel polish but then my nails would still be short. I want long square nails. what should I do?
these are my nails now.
