If you wear reds a lot, the best base coat I've found for staining problem would be cutex nail whitener. Otherwise any basecoat will be sufficient. I like essence polishes (in Australia ) because they're like $3, come in great variety of colours and are durable.

Wet N Wild Megalast is the best drugstore polish in the universe! Before I started using Seche Vite, the Sally Hansen Base and top coats worked pretty well for a nice neat mani.

Anything Sally Hansen! The cheapest is Xtreme Wear and they have other lines that increase in price, but honestly the quality of all of their nail polishes is great, even the three dollar ones.
