I'm growing my hair down to my waist, and I was excited that my hair was getting long. but then my mum told me I should cut it off, and that long hair makes you look older, fatter, and more washed out. is this true? I love having long hair, and when I have it short it is an afro. I also am very self conciounse out my weight though. please help :)

It depends on the person, but I don't see the science behind it; if anything, long hair should be slimming (short hair can make your face look very round) and make you look younger, since more young girls have long hair opposed to 50 year old women. A hair length cannot make you look washed out; its all about the color of your hair. Honestly, your mom has no right to put you down like that.
