Beauty Product Reviews

Very Pigmented, Brush Only So-So.

I'm very fair so the highlight shade in this duo is more of a shimmery blush than a highlighter. If you are also very fair, you might find that this duo is going to last you forever; I only have to touch my brush to the palette and I have more than enough for basic daily contouring from the wonderful deeper shade. The contouring shade is neither yellow nor pink, it isn't ashy or orange - a wonderful balance I have no idea how CT managed. Properly blended, it's probably the most natural contouring powder I've ever come across.

The brush isn't as soft as most mid-to-high end brushes and I don't find the shape really useful for contouring. Honestly, I think the brush brings the set down some and it would be better off without it.

One of the few JI products with gluten

I can't really review how well this product works because it's one of the few Jane Iredale products with gluten. When I spoke to someone at JI about it, they suggested using a powder over the top instead of a mattifying base. If you have a gluten sensitivity or allergy and need something gluten-free, try their Smooth Affair primer instead, it works fairly well for the oily areas of my combination skin.

Shade 93: More taupe than silver

This is a great liner - it's creamy, applies evenly even with a slightly amateur hand, and has beautiful color payoff. My one quibble is that I really wish Inglot provided color descriptions as you can't always tell across the internet what something will look like - shade 93 I was hoping for something more in the pewter range and this has a bit too much of a taupe tinge for that. I do like taupe shades, so there's no love lost here - I'm sure it will see plenty of use but if you're looking for something more pewter-like, dig elsewhere. If you want silver, go ahead and go for the flashier shade 92.

Lola Lilac Very Light

I'm incredibly fair - the kind of fair that has trouble buying foundation and everything shows up a little brighter on my skin. Lola Lilac? Was very difficult to get to show as a brow shade no matter how I applied it. It also looks a little blue instead of lilac. It doesn't show up in my (dyed) pastel hair or my child's naturally blonde hair. Because it's so chalky (because it's a chalk, no surprises there,) I'm having trouble finding a use for this shade. I'd like to try a brighter/deeper shade to see if it's a general issue or just this shade.

I generally love ABH products but this one is a miss.
