Beauty Product Reviews
Really disappointed this year
I get this bag every year. My XL bag this year had all pick toned products, which makes my fair skin look like I have an eye infection. Since colors are always a toss up, I can't be too upset by that; however, the Oribe Detangling Shampoo is RANCID smelling. I adore Oribe Gold Lust line and the scent. This shampoo smells like Clean Tangerine Lume Deodorant. The scent is like it has gone bad and lingers in your hair, even after conditioner. I had really tangled, curly hair and thought today was a perfect day for it to arrive. My hair feels like straw and came out in clumps in the shower. There was no softness or detangling. The outcome on top of the revolting scent make me believe either this item is expired or it is an awful line by Oribe. I look to these boxes to find new things to love each year... this year I know what exactly NOT to explore further.
Should've gotten it sooner
I have very little lid space and chubby fingers. So, really sparkling inner corners can end up getting under my eye and halfway down my nose. Achieving a clean cut crease usually takes some delicate work since I have to create one above my natural crease and I have nerve ending issues in my hands. Obviously, making things even or super clean for me takes a lot of work. With this brush, I ended up with a perfectly even cut crease, using a SUPER sparkly shade that I laid down masterfully in my inner corner and lower lash line. It took mere minutes and I did all the detail work with this brush. I sat around with this brush in my cart for LITERAL years. I wasted all those years. A spritz of setting spray and I'll never have a mislaid inner corner highlight for the rest of my life. This baby makes gradient shadow on my lower lash line easy peasy. Also, I'll prob be sporting a cut crease as my primary look for the next decade. 😉 Now, I think I'll get the medium size because I'm feeling brave and putting money on my small little lid space sporting an easy halo eye with the slightly larger version of this precious prescion miracle worker. Tiny lid space owners or chubby fingers/long nail club members trying to do meticulous work... look no further, you're hero is right here.
Colors were not complimentary to Medium tones
I did purchase both the Medium and Light. I bought the Medium first because I prefer a darker lip and tan well, so I thought I'd use it in the Spring/Summer. I got the Imperial Topaz shadow which I own and I'm not a huge fan of. The bronzers were great. The formula is smooth and buildable. The blush was horrendous. The colors were Shocking/Pearl. This aptly named Shocking is a pink so bright, even with the lightest hand and the Wayne Goss Airbrush, it was still too much. The Lip Liners seem to have a pattern in both boxes. Two super light almost exact colors and one pop of life. In this box, were the shades Sepia, a yellow toned, unflattering "nude", Medium Nude, an almost exact dupe for Sepia with a barely noticeable shade shift lighter and Cinnamon, a nice brick reddish-brown shade. The pencils were dry even after breaking them in a little. The tones were very off putting and brought no life or definition to my fair lips, except for Cinnamon. So actual Medium tones would be washed out in my opinion. As for the Lipsticks, I recieved Magnolia, a peachy shade. It was actually duplicated in my Light box, where it was much more of a fit. This would also wash out a Medium tone. The second color was Pecan, at least according to the sticker on the bottom. There was a difference in packaging and this bullet was marred, smudged, and had dots on the surface. I tried to pull off the sticker from the box because it had a different name, but it ripped and I can't tell what it was now. All the other lipsticks had the shade name printed on the box and a black sticker at the bottom. Pecan did not. I'll include pictures of the regular bottoms and this one, as well as the place where the sticker was on the outer package. This Lipstick reminded me of the Jaclyn Hill launch of anyone else follows make up like I do. If you don't, that's not a good thing, lol. The formula is creamy and applied well from the Magnolia tube. The Eyeliners were Obsidian and Deep Amethyst. Both of these were repeated in the Light box, not they are a great formula for a pencil and colors that will be used or gifted easily. Finally the Glosses were Cherry Blossom, which looked like a mauvey dark pink in the tube, but turned into nothing on the lips and Antique Rose, a goldish glitter bomb. Both of these are not for Medium tones. They washed me out and I'm very Fair this time of year. I was most disappointed that 3 of the 4 Glosses between my Medium and Light box were all glittery and frosty. I had hoped to have a more wearable version of his Glosses. As it stands, I ended up with 2 out of 6 Liners that compliment me. All 4 Lipsticks can be made to work, but one is a dupe and one I'm afraid to put on my lips due to the condition. I have 2 exact matches in unwearable, if not unbearable blush shades and the brighten shade is barely visible. I know it's meant to enhance, but I don't see it being very versatile. I'm so sad that this was my introduction into the rest of his product line. I guess my lesson is, stick to the brushes. Maybe I'll try his liners when I can better see swatches, because some of these were colors I thought I would love based on the online description and YouTube reviews; however, the real life undertones are not flattering at all. I'm still a Wayne Goss fan, just one with limited product interest after this. Some pics are with flash and without. The hand swatches are of both the Light and Medium boxes with the Blush and Liners at the top and bottom since they were repeats.
Lip Glosses/Liners and Cheek Colors were awful
So, I did get both the Light and Medium thinking there wouldn't be too much cross over. I knew the dreaded Imperial Topaz was going to be a cross over, but surely that would be the only palette. I got my Medium first and it had a defective, oddly packaged lipstick. But, I digress, I'll leave most of my critique for that box under a Medium review. As for the Light, the blush was the same AWFUL and aptly named color Shocking. This pink, in my Medium box, I despised, but could understand. In my Light box, no ma'am. In no planet could my fair skin pull off ultra neon pink. The lip liners followed the same scheme. Two super light colors that were pretty identical and one that didn't make you lifeless. I recieved Light Nude, a yellowish tan, Vintage Pink, a yellow more brown than tan (but, def not pink), and Natural Berry, a pretty pink, but not berry. I felt like Natural Betty was more vintage pink. The other two were super yellow undertoned and I probably won't repurchase. The formulas are dry, even after breaking them in a bit. The lip colors had a cross over that confused me. I recieved Magnolia, a creamy peachy pink, and Carnation, a beautiful berry. Both fitting and in the light color family; however, Magnolia was also in my Medium box. The formulas here are a lovely satin and ultra creamy. The bronzers in both boxes were fine, as you really can't mess up Light and Medium there. Both formulas are super sheer, so they are buildable. The Lip Glosses... the shades really had to be mixed up between Light/Medium and were unsavory even then. This was my foray into lips and liners and face products for Wayne Goss. I was left wanting something more impressive. Unless these boxes were from the island of misfit colors, in which case, I get it. The light box came with Hibiscus, a frosty, peachy pink which for the Light theme. But, was followed up with Chrysanthemum, a super dark, bronzey brown that would fit better in a Medium or Dark box. Both of which were total glitter bombs. The eye liners were also repeated in both boxes. Obsidian and Deep Amethyst. I would've loved different colored shades, but those are acceptable cross over in my option. Both shades are rich, smooth and impressive for a pencil formulation. I'm including pictures of all the lip products. And small swatches of BOTH boxes. Please note these were purchased separately. At the top will be the blush/highlighter and at the both the eyeliners (since they were duplicates in both boxes). I'm not swatching the eyeshadow palette since I can't find my opened one I already own and will resale the 2 I recieved in these boxes. Some swatches may have a photo with and without a flash.
