Beauty Product Reviews

Flattering and Unique

Pumpkin Pie has been all I wear throughout the holidays this year (even though it's summer here in Australia). It's smooth, pigmented, long-wearing, not streaky, and super comfortable to wear. The current heat has the tendency to make my lips extra chapped and yet even in the driest conditions this product will still apply smoothly and won't emphasise dryness. These types of burnt orange shades are so hard to come by, and the tiny glitters throughout it make this shade extra unique and original. I can't get enough, and every time I wear this it attracts a bunch of compliments from both young and elderly. I would be lying if I said I didn't think the "rubbing of the lips to activate the glitter" thing was a total gimmick but I was wrong. Upon initial application you can hardly see any glitter at all, but then you gently rub your finger over the top of the lip and BOOM I'm in glitter heaven. I feel as though eating and drinking also make the glitters stand out even more due to the constant friction (which just makes the lipstick prettier in my opinion!). On top of all that this is one of those shades that would look beautiful on anyone no matter your skin-tone and its undertones. This shade is a must-have for any makeup lover, all I can wish for now is that JEFFREE MAKES THIS SHADE PERMANENT. It's quickly become one of my all-time favourites.

Not holy grail...

Just for reference this review is for the shade "Dulce de Leche". I would describe the colour as a mix between a mauve and a dusty pink nude, it pulls quite mauve against my pale olive complexion.

This product ticks a lot of boxes for me; the texture is smooth and creamy, feels lightweight and super comfortable to wear while being long-wearing, and the packaging is very aesthetically pleasing, but there are a few things about it that made me take those two stars from this review. First off the scent: it's very strong, like a sickeningly sweet vanilla icing. I can see how some people might like it but the problem for me is that it lingers for the entire time I'm wearing it and it makes me feel a little nauseous after a while. Then there's the applicator; the short length of the cap makes it a little uncomfortable/awkward to hold, and of on top of that the material of the doe foot applicator is really stiff (I'm used to soft and fluffy applicators that can"mold" to the shape of your lips). It almost feels like I'm applying the lipstick with a stick, which leads to a lot of streakiness. To avoid this problem I tried applying the product with a lip brush, and while the streakiness did die down I could still see slight patchiness/streaks throughout my lips, nothing major but it was there. I think this is mainly due to the white base of this particular shade so I will probably try out a deeper shade next time and see how it compares. All in all I wouldn't repurchase this shade, but would be willing to try the darker colours in the future.
