That is possible... but sometimes the water can also affect the spreading of the polish :)

I'm not entirely sure but I'm guessing that some polishes might be too thick to spread or dry too fast to spread on the water. The type of water you use may also affect the results. It's best to use room temperature filtered water for the best results :)
