Beauty Product Reviews

Eh, not a fan of these eyeshadows. I purchased both from Sephora a few months back and never got around to writing a review on them.

In a nutshell, this is by far the worst makeup purchase I have made in a VERY long time. It tops the “makeup failures” list, bumping the Rimmel Matte foundation to the #2 slot.

The eyeshadow is basically unusable. How are some people even using them? I tried convincing myself that I some how got a “bad batch” lol. But after further investigation on other review sites, I’ve come to the conclusion that they just suck. Bad quality, little to zero pigmentation, unblendable, and the list goes on and on.

There are TWO good things about them… The packaging is absolutely adorable and the pan is huge. Although since the product sucks so bad, it can be looked at as a bad thing that they provide you with so much of a crappy product… So I guess ONE good thing about them – cute packaging.

If Kat Von D palettes are any better quality, please DO let me know. For now, I’m hesitant on purchasing them due to the assumption of the same eyeshadow formulation.

The “glitter” side of the duo looked promising, but after swatching them, I was wrong. The glitter is basically so loose in the shadow that when applied, the glitter slides right off… And I could only imagine it sliding all over my face if I attempted to use it on my eyes. If you look at my swatch above (click image for larger view), you will notice on the glitter side, all the glitter is AROUND the swatch, not on it HAHA.

By the way, the swatches in the photo were done using a primer on my hand (primer used: MAC “Painterly” Paintpot) – what a sad excuse for eyeshadows to look like that even with a base. Each swatch took about 4-5 applications (using my MAC 239 brush) to achieve the color pay off you see in the swatches. Sorry Kat Von D, but who has the time or patience to apply 5 layers of 1 color? Let’s not even talk about the blendability of these shadows. Basically, fail.

OK, so I must admit… I really did only buy this mascara because of the packaging. I mean, you can’t blame me!! :) COME ON! It’s pink and sparkly purple! & yes, MAC sold me on the whole 2 wands in 1 kinda deal.

So I never had any high expectations from the mascara. Honestly, I’ve never been impressed with any mascaras from MAC (they have never compared to MUFE Smoky Lash or Lancome Hypnose Drama for me). BUUUUUT – this one sort of blew me away… Unexpectedly.

I’m loving the smooth, creamy, formula of this mascara. It seems to be formulated to hold your curled lashes very well. Kind of like hairspray for your lashes! But they were still pliable and soft to the touch (not stiff and crunchy – blech!)

This concealer palette is my new love

I was really torn between purchasing this or the Coastal Scents Camo Quads. The camo quads come in 3 different colors, and 1 color corrector. Each compact contains 4 shades of the color selected. The palette contains 10 different shades… That in itself makes it much more superior (IMO). With the palette, I can mix 2, 3, or 4 shades together to get my perfect shade. Yeah I could do that with the quad also, but each section of the quad isn’t as large as each pan on the palette.

Quads are $7.95 USD each Palettes are $16.95 USD each

The formulas are exactly the same… So the quality of the product is equal.

This concealer gives me the most flawless coverage, and requires very little. It’s just all around amazing! I now have a shade to conceal my dark under eye circles, a shade for my blemishes, a shade for scars, etc. You may also think that you would waste about 4 shades in the palette due to skin tone, but trust me, the darker shades make AMAZING contour colors for cheekbones and nose. The consistency is great, since it’s pretty stiff at first, but softens nicely with the warmth of your finger tips. It also blends GREAT! I no longer have to sit there and blend, blend, blend, fearing the visible concealer outline.

No complaints from me. I would and do recommend this palette to anyone looking for a great concealer. I would definitely re-purchase this.

CoastalScents makes pretty nice 88 palettes. Out of the 4 I own, I think my fav is still the 88 Warm Palette. Perfect for "on-the-go" girls, or anyone that likes to travel. All the 88 palettes contain colors that work well alone, with others, etc.

They're convenient to own, take up very little space, and is a great starter piece to anyone getting into makeup.
