Novelty nail polish has always been a favorite among tweens and the more experimental set (mood polish, anyone?). Now, better technology gives this rather kitschy concept trend-setting potential, in the form of magnetic nail polish. Not sure how this fusion of beauty and science actually works? The formula contains metallic particles that react and move when they interact with a specific kind of magnet. After applying the polish, simply hover the magnet (found on top of the polish cap) over your nails before they dry. The designs will look different depending on how you move the magnet (maintain a similar movement pattern to create a more uniform design, like the one below, or go more abstract with each nail, like we did above). We discovered Layla Cosmetics Magneffect Nail Polish at this year’s Cosmoprof trade show. You don’t need a base coat or top coat with this polish, which comes off easily with acetone. I actually love thw magnetic polish. It's unique, and very bold. It will leave an impression on people, and catch their attention. I use it often! It looks even cooler with a Matte finish. :) Try it.

I tried Sally Hansen, China Glaze and OPI magnetic polish and had a great deal of difficulty getting any results. I think the effect is really cool I just wish I could get it to work.
