It is truly disgusting what insurance companies and the healthcare industry have come to in the United States. After being in the hospital for a week, I was still being denied life-saving treatment to cure my cancer. I have since switched insurance and will be taken care of at one of the best hospitals in the country, Cedars Sinai, but delayed 2 weeks from when I should have begun treatment. I fully intend to advocate for healthcare reform in this country. It's a sad day when a hard working, successful, able-bodied person is basically bankrupted and denied treatment when they become ill.
Last year I was diagnosed with seminoma (testicular cancer), a "young man's" cancer that affects men ages 15-35. Through surgery on August 15, it was determined that I had stage 1A cancer and the surgery rid me of the illness.
Unfortunately the cancer survived and metastasized on my lymph node. One night a couple weeks ago, I ended up in the emergency room in agonizing pain - the symptoms of kidney stones, one of the more excruciating experiences of my life. For 5 days, even the strongest narcotics could barely ease the pain. After several tests, it was discovered that the cancerous tumor, roughly the size of a tennis ball, was pressing my kidney and mimicking kidney stones. Despite the pain lessening, during my biopsy I experienced internal bleeding and it's taken more than 10 days for the pain and discomfort from that to subside.
This is still a very highly curable form of cancer. Through clean eating and aggressive chemotherapy, I will beat this. Thanks to the support of friends, family, and followers - I am going into treatment with a little more confidence and peace of mind.
Thank you all for your support during this difficult time.
