The Dark Side of the Indie Beauty Community! I'm sharing a bit of an Indie Beauty rant with you today. I wanted to talk about elitism in the beauty community, specifically the indie beauty community. While you'll meet many nice people and run across amazing brands, you'll also meet people who have an elitist attitude and they're good at alienating newbies who are just getting into indie makeup. There's a lot of confusion over what an 'indie business' is. An indie business is a business that's free from outside control. That means that the indie business doesn't have a parent company, nor do they have a board who controls the shots. The owner (or co-owners) of the company call the shots. So companies like Sugarpill, Makeup Geek and OCC Makeup are just as much indie brands as Fyrinnae, Silk Naturals, My Pretty Zombie or Aromaleigh. Despite elitism in the indie community, I love supporting indie brands. What draws me back to them is the high quality products at an affordable price point and being able to help support a small business.
