Written pattern for the crochet mittens:

Chain 12
Do single crochets for the entire cuff, making 23 rows.
Then slip stitch the ends together.
Don't cut the yarn just do 23 single crochets around the top of the cuff you just made.

Now increase:
((Do 4 half double crochets, then 2 HDC in the same stitch, repeat for one row)(Then do one row of HDC)) x 3 (do it all 3 times!)

To make the thumb, skip 10 stitches and join together with HDC.
Then continue around the mitten, leaving the thumb for now.
Do 2 rows of HDC.

Now decrease:
((Do 4 HDC, then do a back post crochet. repeat this for one row)(Then do one row of HDC)) x 3 (do it 3 times!).
Then close off at the top.

For the thumb just do 8 rows of half double crochets.
