DIY Tutorial: Zombie Skull Crown Headpiece

`*•.¸♥♫ ITEMS REQUIRED ♫ ♥¸.•*´

→ Glue gun

→ A lot of glue sticks

→ Thin foam board

→ A skull silicone mold

→ Art wire

→ Toothpicks or small sticks

→ Small beads

→ Rhinestones

→ Black, gold & clear spray paint

→ 2 mini hair combs


`*•.¸♥♫ INSTRUCTIONS ♫ ♥¸.•*´

1. First pour hot glue into a skull mold to create custom skulls for your headpiece. I got my mold from Etsy, but I recommend getting a skull mold with multiple molds otherwise this can get tedious. Silicone molds are recommended because they can withstand a lot of heat (but keep your hot glue gun on its lowest setting) and are easy to work with. And no, it's not something I figured out on my own, I got the idea from another DIY tutorial :)

Make more than you need; a handful should be enough.

2. Next, measure art wire around your head, angling it around the crown. The ends of the wire should end at the sides of your head. Cut off this length and straigthen the wire out.

3. Cut a strip of foam sheet. It should be slightly smaller in width than the size of the skull but as long as the wire itself.

4. Carefully glue the wire to the foam board. This will create a very flexible headpiece that is also incredibly light - which is why I made this instead of buying an actual headband.

5. Now glue the skulls to the foam using hot glue.

6. After that, pour hot glue in between the skulls to seal them. Also run the hot glue in little strings all over the skulls to give it a creepy, gooey effect.

7. Using hot glue, stick little sticks around the headpiece. Cover these sticks with a lot of hot glue, it should look really goopy and thick.

8. Spray paint the skull crown black, then gold. Make sure you are doing this either outside or in a well-ventilated area.

9. Immediately spray paint it with a clear coat. When you do this, the clear coat will expose some of the black underneath the gold and seeps down the skull, creating a really creepy effect. Allow this to full dry (give it 24 hours).

10. Cut little bits of wire and stick them mainly to the sticks of the headpiece.

11. Next, apply little beads to the eyes of the skulls using hot glue. This makes it..you guessed it, pretty creepy :)

12. Finish it off by adding rhinestones randomly onto the skull headpiece.

13. Stipple a pink or red color onto the skull crown. This is to create a subtle dried blood effect.

14. Spray paint the skull crown black and gold again, then spray a lot of the clear coat to expose the red underneath. This will cause the headpiece to show just hints of red, kind of like a blood stain.

15. Hot glue tiny hair combs to the sides of the crown so it will stick in your hair better...and you're done!

♫ ♥¸.•*´ PRECAUTIONS/WARNINGS ♫ ♥¸.•*´

→ Be careful when working with hot glue. Use it on the lowest setting only and avoid touching it while it's still hot.

→ Make sure the area you are working in is well-ventilated and covered with newspaper. The items you are working with can release fumes that can make you sick.

→ Make sure to properly cover the area you are working in. Spray paint can stain your furniture and carpet easily if you're not careful.
