Hey guys. I’m back with another video using perm rods! Can you tell that these are my favorite tool to use when it comes to getting super defined curls?!?

In this video, I wanted to experiment with rolling my hair differently on the perm rods. I’ve seen quite a few tutorials where the hair was twisted/coiled onto the perm rod (instead of the normal “flat” way of just rolling the hair). The claim was the hair would have a bit more dimension. So, I wanted to try it for myself.

In this video, I used products from the Shea Moisture Coconut and Hibiscus line. On damp hair, I first applied the Curl and Style Milk. I then followed that up with Frizz Free Curl Mousse. I made sure to comb both products thru, to ensure it was evenly distributed.

To apply the perm rod, I first started by rolling the hair like I normally would. Then, once I was satisfied with the hair being on the rod securely, I began to twirl my hair around the rod. It was almost as if I was rolling hair on the perm rod that had been finger coiled/twirled first.

I have to admit, it took a little while to get used to this way of applying the perm rod. As with most things, my brain was so accustomed to rolling the hair the traditional way.

I let my hair air dry. For me, this takes at least 12 hours.

In the end, I’m really happy with the way the curls came out. It’s hard to explain but, the way my hair curled up was different. It’s not that it was curlier…it was just a different type of curl.
