Good to know Em! I'm glad you got a nice application in the end, there's nothing worse than not feeling comfortable in your makeup :)

Personally, it depends on what it is I dislike.
Do I dislike the color combination, style, etc.. or is it really bad make up application?
It would be unfortunate to miss out on a good MUA based on my personal taste.. for example I am not quite too fond of the colors red/yellow when used together. Her cut crease could be the bomb.com, but if she used red/yellow I will honestly say that I will not be fond of the look. But that doesn't mean she is a bad MUA.. now if she's sporting eyeliner and cannot even make that line straight... then we have an issue lol.
I will admit I am not fond of Jaclyn's make up application and something about her personality strikes me the wrong way, but that is just me.

Jaclyn Hill is a true makeup artist outside of YouTube. So I find it kinda ignorant to be saying this about her, even though you don't know her enough to know she is a MUA.
Besides that, you also have to realize that she films with professional lights that make every person who used them look airbrushed and it makes the colors more vibrant.
But I don't think you should judge a makeup artist by their makeup, because Jaclyn just posted a picture yesterday of a client who looked very natural.

Kaitlin: I never said she wasn't a MUA, I said I didn't like her makeup and thats why I clicked off the video which made me ponder if it was correct to judge a makeup artist based on appearance. And now in fairness if she is an MUA that has been filming for a good while and knows her set up would she not alter her blush/highlight to take into consideration the vibrant lighting. Ultimately I don't care about Jacqlyn, this thread wasn't about her, I only mentioned her as a backstory leading to my question. I'm not really happy with you calling me ignorant when you didn't even read what I said but I'll let it go. Thanks for commenting nevertheless. :)
Olivia: But if you were a professional, working MUA you would do your makeup to represent your skill level when with clients or potential clients, am I wrong? :)
Kitty: I would try to judge on the application but now I'm just going to use Jacqueline's tips and quiz their knowledge beforehand haha

I personally love Jaclyn Hill. I do think her makeup can be too bold but she has so many good tips that I love watching her.

I can understand the comparisons, but Bobbi Brown is an incredible make up artist (she has her own line for goodness sake!) and she has said herself that she does not like wearing too much makeup or dolling herself up. But that doesn't mean her work isn't just incredibly amazing. So I wouldn't judge too harshly based solely on what you're looking at. Makeup artists have their own makeup preferences and while they may do something dramatic and bold on someone else's face, they don't necessarily have to like it on their own face.
I personally have yet to watch any Jaclyn Hill videos, so I can't judge her specifically.

I agree with Renay, check the portfolio first. And I love all of miss Jacqueline's tips on when to run. Fortunately, I would like to grow enough to be able to do my own makeup even for special occasions. Here in Italy the selection is kinda small and disappointing anyway :)
