New Respect For MAC Artists.

This morning I had the opportunity to shadow a MAC makeup artist at a Belk counter for an article I'm doing about retail workers. Today the Osbourne collection was released to the counters and MAC store locations. When I arrived at 9am I was greeted by a very frazzled MAC manager. She said the phone had been ringing off the hook since 8am when she arrived.

When the store opened at 10am it was like a mad rush. Women were not only snide to one another but they were also rude to those working behind the counter. In a span of 45 minutes every single lippie was sold out. While there was action at the counter the angry calls were coming in. Women calling and cursing out the artists for being sold out and wanting to speak to management.

The icing on the cake was when a young woman came in wanting Kelly Yum Yum. She was shorter than me at 5'0 but the mouth on her was something else. She caused such a scene I picked up the phone from where I was standing and called for store security. Right before they showed up she pushed a display off the counter and spat at the artist in front of her.

I was shocked to see GROWN women act like crazed manics over some dang makeup. During all the craziness all the artists managed to keep their cool and not stoop down to the level of some of these customers. It was mind blowing. In talking with some of artists I was told that such behavior is common place with the super popular LE releases. Seeing what I saw and heard today...I truly have a newfound respect for MAC artists.

As much as I love retail and working with the public there are days when I wanna take a belt to supposedly grown people. I have seen and just about heard it all. The behavior you saw today does not surprise me. The society we live in today lacks manners. class, and common sense.

I left shortly after she was removed from the sales floor and manager texted me and said the woman was arrested for disturbing the peace and for simple assault ( for spitting at the store employee).

That's just ridiculous but I'm not surprised by such behavior.I've seen something similar at sephora when the Ariel palette came out a lady ran in front of everyone and started cleaning off the shelf of palettes and we all just stood there because we were in shocked then a manager asked her to please put them back and she was only allowed one, well she wasn't happy about it and had a big fit over it as if it was the end of the world, it was insane ugh some people need to ease up with the attitude and have manners.

Wow. that is truly shameful behavior...all over some lipsticks?? I mean, don't get me wrong, I stayed up on the 2nd so I could order online and missed out on some product, but to behave that way is sickening. I'm glad she got arrested, hopefully she will get a reality check and put her life choices in perspective. smh

I've never seen anything like this before and I spent some years selling cars where tensions run high but not that dang high where people are getting spit on and stuff pushed off counters. MAC really needs to change how they conduct LE releases and produce more units to fit the demand. I saw the stock before store opening and there was about 45 units for each lippie shade...KYY sold out quick and by the time I left all lipsticks/glosses were gone. And one of the blushes was sold out as well and they only received 20 units of that shade.

Unfortunately this is the type of behavior Mac is inadvertently promoting..
its part of the Hyde they create by not producing enough.. like you said, 45units is ridic. but that's the only reason y their stuff sells out so fast..
that's y I don't even try. if I can't get it on a casual trip to the store or on nordy website I give up. it ain't meant to b..

I've been very disappointed with MAC as of late. Yesterday I called CS to express concern over the restock of the Pedro Lourenco collection. The lipglasses were mislabeled in the box, this had been an issue since the initial release. While ordering, I forgot about the mix up, so I called them to see if they could resolve the issue for me. The woman with MAC CS apologized and was very nice, and directed me to MAC/Estee HQ. I called about my issue, and the woman I spoke to acted like she had NO idea what I was talking about. I told her that a MAC rep confirmed what I was saying, but she still denied it. Then she said she would direct my case to someone higher. My friend called right after I did and spoke to the same woman, who told her the exact same thing. Smh I am so disappointed with the lies.

I have yet to venture in to makeup type retail sales but I have experience with retail and even then sometimes the attitude and rudeness I get is ridiculous and just completely unnecessary. I can't even imagine what anyone who works in retail involving makeup goes through. I can't say I'm surprised though, some people have something wrong with them lol. There's no other way to explain such foul behavior lol
