I agree with NYC - except their translucent pressed powder. It reminded me of MAC's blot powder.

covergirl, their foundations always go pink on me not even like a nice pink either.. like a salmon pink and it gives me one of those mask line things. And L'oreal, there are very few things that have ever given me an allergic reaction, and their foundation does, that has never happened before. My best friend also had the same reaction with l'oreal.

Covergirl, Maybeline, Loreal, Rimmel, NYC, and The Color Workshop. I don't like Covergirl's products, they aren't new, and poorly packaged. Other drugstore brands are more on top of things. Maybeline has never worked for anyone I know, and has gimmicky products. Loreal is the biggest animal test offender and has products that smell horrible, and are often gimmicky. Rimmel has 3 foundation shades, and all formula's are orange based and cakey. NYC, you get what you paid for, but Wet N' Wild is far superior. The Color Workshop has no pigmentation. Not worth the money.

I think it's really weird that a lot of people don't like Smashbox, it was one of the first makeup lines I've ever used and I still love it. When I used to buy Covergirl, I never found anything that I really liked. & I find that Gosh has pretty bad pigmentation in their quads.

By the way, Covergirl does NOT test on animals. Pretty much ALL make up companies tested on animals back on the day, but most of them do not any longer. Ellen Degeneres is a Covergirl and she is vegan. She would not represent a company that tested on animals.

Good idea! Peta may be extreme in their tactics, but they are a good resource for animal cruelty (or not) companies. I'm just tired of people saying "company X tests on animals" when that is no longer the case. I am a stickler for accuracy!  lol...

I get called ocd or anal a lot because I'm really big on accuracy too lol (For the record on anyone ify on peta, I support the message just not always the methods lol That's why I decided to include mymakeupmirror.com as an alternative.) As an animal and cosmetics lover I decided to look into it instead of going on what people say. I don't like people stating things as facts without research to back it up. I really hope it helps making shopping easier for anyone interested.

Well, My Makeup Mirror doesn't give CoverGirl the OK.
Is there something that flat out says CG does not do testing?

I googled about Ellen and CG and all I see is scandal scandal scandal.

Why there will always be nothing but scandal : There isn't a clear yes or no answer on covergirl. They are run by the parent company p & g. They have a nice long and wordy official statement to handle any questions on animal testing. Because p & g produces such a wide variety of products from household cleaners to our makeup we're now discussing it is even harder to get a straight answer. However part of this longwinded answer is that P & G only uses animal testing when it is required by law. There are no laws requiring animal testing with cosmetics. I would say I was 99% sure covergirl doesn't use animal testing.

Something to consider:
However not just covergirl but almost every make up brand is not just a cosmetic but a science project. The ingredients that make up our favorite products are just individual ingredients until put together into a finished product. These may have and probably were tested on animals at one point. It may have been a large company or independent lab but everything was tested before it reached you. Maybe it was three months or decades ago but it was. Research being done now has resources to test using computer models and even to test on cells themselves in a petri dish rather then a whole creature. Before these advances in science and before the public pushed for animal rights many companies did many cruel things in the name of safety testing. For most companies this was in past and will stay that way (hopefully) We should be thankful to be pushing past that era in cosmetics and into a new one that leaves it far behind.

I'm really sorry for these being so long and turning a review of product quality into an ethics debate. I hope that some good comes of this and that I have been more helpful then annoying.

i am consistently disappointed with smashbox. i don't know what it is about this brand, but their make up just does not work for me. their gel liners, for the price always dries up. their eyeshadows are chalky and their primer creases. this brand is raved about for various reasons, but it just pales in comparison to nars, urban decay, stila and too faced.

I will agree with Denise and say Smashbox. WAY overpriced and everything I've ever purchased has been "Ehhh" at best.

I have had a few good Smashbox blushes, but most everything else Smashbox I have thrown away. They also splash the Leaping Bunny head all over their products, which I disagree with, bc they are owned by a company that tests. But I am vegan, so I am aware that its just my two cents on the last part.

Tbh, I don't care if a brand animal test honestly if they don't it's an extra perk but quite a few brands animal test and choosing not to purchase from them could limit my options which at this time I am not prepared to do. However, I could see why it would be an issue for some. Over all there are a lot of different brands out there and they all have hits or misses I actually LOVE CoverGirl lipsticks! It's just about what works for you! :)

I just love that everyone hates covergirl as much as I do. I've bought things from them that literally don't do anything. Like, compacts where the powder won't even come up on a brush. I've tried to get my mom to switch off from them but she's been using cg for years.

Up until today I've always heard such great things about CoverGirl, especially their Natureluxe foundation... so I guess that means it isn't all that great?

Wet and Wild eye palettes are the bomb. You can get them at any pharmacy for a reasonable price and its good quality. I agree that Covergirl is not the best of brands...

Ooh, I thought I was alone thinking Covergirl was the worst beauty brand of all time. Lol, guess not.

Leaping on the 'covergirl sucks' wagon. If it isn't completely useless, it has a terrible smell. Hate everything I've ever tried by them. And adding up all the things I've tried in my head, I'm pretty angry at myself for spending that much $ on them!

LA Colors, ELF, and The Color Workshop are the worst products I have ever used. Horrible pigmentation and the LA colors palette I had smelled like cheap baby powder. Egh. Best ones I tried, Loreal HIP, Wet-n-wild, Ruby Kisses (please try their HD gel liners, highlighter/bronzers, and eyeshadow primer!), BH cosmetics.

Ulta brand. It's TERRIBLE.
