Snooty Employees

I think the best make up counters I experienced are Benefit and Urban Decay the worst are ALWAYS Clinique and Lancome which is FINE because I can definitely do WITHOUT. Mac counter is hit and miss but I primarily go to the store, I haven't had too many bad experiences otherwise.

Has anyone else had bad experiences at Ulta? Im guessing they dont get any commission..maybe im wrong? I was really excited when I heard about Ulta and I've made the drive there twice. The employees were all really unfreindly and not helpful..what a bad vibe. I don't think I would attend one of their beauty events. It's too bad because the store is awesome! I've always had a really good experience with the Sephora here.

A while back I had a pretty bad experience at my local ULTA. I got my hair cut and color there about 2 years ago and the final result was horrible! The left side was longer then the right and the highlights were completely uneven. After I asked to get it fixed they gave me such a hard time about it. Most places they would fix it for free but they wanted to charge me for getting my hair fixed when their stylist messed it up in the first place! Seriously thats horrible but luckily the stylist and manager isn't there anymore.

i started working at ULTA and my co-workers are really nice. i never understood why associates treated customers like crap. i've been working in customer service for 10+ years and i've always been nice to EVERYONE even the ones with sand in their panties. some people really need to find a new line of work.
adele givens once said it all - "i never understood why the sales b*tches at the store think they're better than you. i mean, hello! b*tch, you sell sh*t!" LOL

I was actually in a Sephora the other day with one of my friends (and the store was EMPTY) we were waiting for someone to come over and help us. We had already asked the lady at the counter for help and she said that someone will be over in a minute. There were 2 ladies 10 feet over talking (that worked there) to eachother, but they were ignoring us. We stood there for about 5 minutes. At that point we decided to leave and go to Nordstroms. We were interested in Philosophy skin care products. As we were walking out the ladies that were talking heard that we were mad and then they spoke up and were like... "Can we help you". They saw us standing there waiting. We told them NO. In this economy with so many people out of work you would think that people would want to work harder to ensure that they keep their jobs. It was their loss. My friend spent over $300 at Nordstroms. The girl was so sweet their and sold her on so much stuff.... so much more then she was there to buy.

I've had rare occurrences of rude employees in Sephora more than MAC. MAC (at least in CO) have at least two really nice employees per each a**hole working. I remember waiting for 10 minutes for this MAC employee to "help me," and she kept putting it off until this other girl swept in and got me taken care of.

But in Sephora, I was literally yelled at for asking about philosophy's powder make up. She was telling me that she worked skincare so she wouldn't know about anything in front of the store, only the back. Once she was done, I pointed behind her, "But philosophy is right behind you, including the powder I was asking about." She stormed off without helping me. I felt bad (I don't know why) and left. I was so scared of her I've never bought skincare from Sephora.

I am literally sitting here laughing my HEAD off!! I thought I was the only one who thought MAC employees had bitch tendencies LOL >__< I've worked retail for how many years, so I know what it's like to have a service job & the customers you get sometimes make your job extra difficult, BUT at the end of the day, that's your JOB -- to service people. Most of the time, I'm so reluctant to approach a MAC counter or a Sephora "consultant" to ask for any help, because most of the time (not all the time), I either get brushed off or get crappy CS. I've come across some very friendly & sweet employees at 2 local MAC counters, but others... well.... i'll shut my mouth on that one. As for Sephora, I've always felt that the consultants didn't really know their products well & are quite rude at times.. and may I add, some of them can't even face match properly! My advice is, DO YOUR RESEARCH BEFORE YOU WALK TO A COUNTER/STORE, have a GOOD idea of what you want to try/buy, and be out. I always go knowing exactly what I want, just to avoid having to interact w/ the MUAs sometimes =\

I vented earlier about Sephora... I had to get it off my mind. I have had a few run in's with MAC employees. I have actually decided to not shop at MAC anymore unless its something that I am dying to have. MAC was my go to makeup when I first started loving makeup but the people are very rude and they never have enough people working there. You can go and they will put you off for ever. Yes... the store is crowded but they wont even pay any notice to you... tell you one minute. NOTHING. I think that there are other lines out there that are just as good, sometimes better for around the same price (sometimes less money, sometimes more). I think that customers need to start opening up there minds to other products and they will see that MAC is not all its cracked up to be. Especially over the past few years. The customer service sucks and there product is just "ok".

I agree with @Kris. There are alot of employees at Sephora that dont know alot of the products. But if you go into your local Sephora enough you will know who to ask and who not to ask. There are a few very educated people in the one near me that I normally go straight to if they are working. They know about 80% of the products they sell there. If they dont know what I am asking, they will normally ask someone else. There have been times that I go and the customer service is just horrible, but I guess that goes with the territory.

I agree with the last two posters. It seems that some people in Sephora don't really know too much about the products they sale, etc. I've went on two different occasions to try and find a new foundation. The first time, they gave me a color for MUFE Duo Mat. The second time around I went back cause I really wanted a concealer to hide my acne scars. The girl was like, you're wearing this color? It doesn't even match you... I told her well, back in the day, a Sephora worker told me this matches my skin tone. Then she tells me to use another color. Then there are other times I go up to a worker with a question/concern, and they look at me with a "deer and a headlights" look.

BUT, I rather have that over the stuck up snobs at MAC. Just like many people, I've kind of stopped shopping at MAC because of that. I understand that every store out there has their snobs, and each sales person has their bad days... I don't expect every sales person to be happy, and it's very hard to get me irritated. But when it keeps happening with different people, and always at MAC, I have come to realize, they don't deserve my business.

From the moment you step into their store, or go to their counter, they look at you. It's like they look to see if you're worthy enough to shop there, or if you have a MAC forcefield or something. Because if you don't look like them, they are very rude... AND they treat you like you're not good enough to wear their brand. Many times I go in and ask a question, like "what type of blush is good for my skin tone?" "how do I do this... or that..." etc. etc. When I'm sitting on their chair and asking for tips, they're sassy with their answers. In return I give them a sale if they do something to my face. But just that feeling they rub off on me, it kept me from going back to them. Sad sad sad...

I like showing up the snooty employees. Like they'll ask you a snooty question expecting you to answer all weakly and you have an educated awesome answer and they're shocked. Ahaha. One mac lady was being a dumb dumb but I wanted to get some stuff.. So I approached her and was like "Hi! I want to get some things.." and she's like "Do you know you want to buy?" expecting I'm gonna be like 'a pink blush' or something vague and I was like "Yeah! Can I have Pink Swoon, Parfait Amour and Vanilla pigment." And she was surprised and then started chatting with me. I guess they're friendlier if they don't have to do their job and you already know what you want.

Bottom line, it is our money that covers the retail employees' payroll.

They should not judge a book by its cover because in all truth, not everyone that comes to the counter is going to be dressed to the nines or wearing the store's product. There are quite a few women out there who make sure they are perfectly coiffed, immaculately dressed, and made up for their jobs but may not want to wear all of that to walk in a beauty or department store.

I have visited Benefit, MAC, Sephora, Ulta, Origins, Macy's, Nordstrom's, and Bare Escentuals.

** Edited to add: My experiences with all of these stores is that they just see ETHNIC and I have had to confront clerks with the question, "Is there something I am doing that is making you uncomfortable? I am here to shop and don't appreciate being profiled."***

Once I figure out my product preferences, I go online to shop. Why go into a shop when you can use promo codes and get free samples? You don't have to deal with the snotty attitude and they rarely throw in any samples or coupons at the store.

At a MAC counter in Bakersfield CA, where I'm originally from, I was home on leave wanting to buy an eyebrow pencil. I saw a few Indian women who had been waiting at the counter much longer than me, and still hadnt been acknowledged by anyone yet. So I was waiting my turn and a sales lady acknowledged me and helped me right away . While the Indian women got ignored. Seemed pretty racist to me. JS. SEPHORA is always wonderful tho
