What are some blue based brown box dyes of levels 5 and higher? I am trying to both lighten a level 4 color I have and help reduce orange tones in the hair, so using a light blue based brown may help me do both at the same time. And can you tell just by looking whether a brown is blue based?

No box dye. I am a very experienced hairstylist. Would you be willing to order professional hair color on Amazon? I'll find what you need to order and tell you. I just need a few pictures of your current hair.

Only professional is going to have the tones you're looking for. You can't guess around with box dye

I agree with not using box dyes unless that's all you have access to. Do you have a Sally beauty supply near you? They do better dyes that you can buy without a license and you just buy developer and dye separate. If not, and box dye is all you've got, it won't be super damaging since you're not drastically changing the hair.

Usually they will say cool toned on the box though, the name of the color (like auburn is obviously warm toned but it'll say cool brown or blue brown, winter brown etc) or the number will tell you. You'd want to look for a c5 or a cool toned brown at the level you want. You could also tone the hair before or after you got your desired color, and getting a cool toned or neutral (n5) toned dye.

It's called the internet if Sally's isn't available. Box dye is one size fits all kinda deal. Order color if you can't get it somewhere professional like Sally's

Grace, some people can't order online due to not having a credit card or not having a secure location to receive parcels, and some countries don't get shipped to without costing triple the price.
Box dye is one size fits all, but if that's all she has access to, then it's not going to be the end of the world as long as the hair isn't extremely damaged already. As long as she doesn't expect to change her color right away or want some drastic change, it won't harm the hair badly or react to any other dye she chooses in the future. Box dye is really only an issue once you want to change it and don't know how it's going to react or if you have very fragile hair. If your hair is in okay or better condition, and you don't plan on changing it within the next six months or longer, than its not going to do serious damage.

I definitely agree with Alyx on the box dye. As long as your hair isn't really damaged go with box dye. I've used it and it turned out fine. I don't know about blue based dyes though.
