I need a good salylic or benzoyl peroxide gel to put on after cleanser and before moisturizer. Any recommendations? Thank you.

Salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide serve two different functions, so having both of them in your routine (while of course allowing your skin to adjust to using them) can be very beneficial for treating acne.

Salicylic acid functions as an exfoliant, anti inflammatory, and mild antibacterial. It primarily helps acne by helping to keep your pores clear and excess skin cells off so that the acne causing bacteria cannot have a completely closed area in which to feed/grow. Benzoyl peroxide directly works to kill acne bacteria by more or less oxygenating them; P Acnes dies when exposed to oxygen, which is why it lives *in* your skin rather than on it. On its own BP serves mainly to kill acne causing bacteria.

For SA products the only brand I really turn to is Paula's Choice. They have the widest variety of formulas in terms of texture and percent of active ingredient and they are always sure to get their PH levels right, which is crucial to having your SA products function as an acne treatment.

For BP products, Paula's Choice again has some great options. You can also look at Acne.org's BP treatment, and I've seen a few options from Clearasil/Clean and Clear, though they tend to have 10% strengths which is likely overkill for most acne that BP can actually treat.
