Splurge on really great quality staples. Once you buy some staples, you can rotate in trend items super easily! And buying essentials of higher quality will allow you to make one solid purchase and never/rarely have to replace these things. You can spend all your money on on new seasonal pieces
Some of my more expensive staple items (are not limited to but) include:
a great fitting pair of dark washed jeans
a cropped jacket or a good fitting blazer (fall, spring weather)
basic black pumps you can walk in
neutral colored cardigan
dark neutral blouse
light neautral blouse
black dress
pencil skirt
a trench coat (fall, spring weather)
a dark neutral colored coat (winter weather)
"party dress" other than black
fancy blouse or top of any color
a good pair of ballet flats (i only use on special occasions, not daily)

For the basic starters of any closet you need to emphise versatility. versatility doesnt have to mean a simple black top, it can be several things. Neautral colors do tend to blend better, but dont forget there's more to neutral then black and white. Greys, creamd, and browns aslo are fairly neutral. For basic staples avoid anything pastel or neon. Also, what you need depends entirely on your style. A bitchin' black motorcycle jacket might rock a vintage skirts world, but is it aporiate with everything? No. I would suggest a white and dark button down, a few great pairs of jeans, and a nice pair of black pumps. Now, from your kaiwai name, I would also suggest a black frilly skirt, something with layers. Leggins are also a kaiwai staple.

Start basic, but not tacky. No plain black $8 pencil skirts from Forever 21! Go for striped ones that'd go cute with graphic pullovers, denim jacket that'd look nice if you ever wanted to DIY it, jeans that fit well, beanies, anything you can wear and feel great like a model or something lol. Try searching the tag "urban" or "fashion" or even random things like "shoulder spike" in Tumblr! I get billionssss of ideas of good fashion wishlist items there.

1.) The little black dress. You can make so many looks out of it, after nearly a century, its still one of the best fashion innovations ever.
2.) Jeans. Denim jeans are a must have for any wardrobe, wither if its a skinny jean, boot cut, boyfriend, or straight, you're bound to find a pair that looks great on you.
3.) Collared or button down shirt. You can do anything with them, and they look great on everybody. You can wear an oversize one to the beach with a swimsuit, wear a tailored one with jeans, or tuck it in into a pencil skirt.
4.) Skirts: switching jeans to a skirt in an outfit can make all the difference in dressing up. Pencil skirts, flowing skirts, theyre all great.
5.) Boots. Motorcycle style, heels, or pixie cut, they look great with jeans or dressing up, and they make the illusion of a longer leg (Which I really need lol)
6.)White and black tops: Cotton, jersey, or silk, these are one of the most important peices in my closet.
7.) Black heels: closet basics. Go with nice jeans, dresses, and skirts.
8.) blazer: to pull any outfit together.
9.)Maxi dress: super casual yet dramatic, one of my favorite things ever.
10.) trench Coat: I love my trenchcoat. They are11 flattering, cute, and warm :)
11.) Flats: comfy and casual
12.) sandals, because they go with everything.
^^^ okay I'm sure I'm forgetting something, but that seems about it. They're all pretty versatile and can be used for anything. :) Good luck with your new wardrobe! xx

One pair of jeans that compliments you in every way possible (only one because jeans should be replaced more often because the way they wear. Also cardigans in neutral colors, actually most thing in neutral colors, such as blazers, blouses, boots, etc. The French stick to neutral colors because it gives them more mix and match options, they dress up by adding something like a nice piece of jewelry, a hat, or a scarf.

Plain shirts or tank tops, you can wear them for layering, under a blazer/ cardigan, they are great for underneath scarves.
