I am curious to know how many different shades a MUA has to carry in their kit!? I need to build a kit, and I have decided to go with MUFE HD Foundation, however, I don't know how many shades I need or which ones I need to give me good mixing options?? They are pretty pricey so I don't want to spend money on shades I don't need. Help!!

I know some pro artists that has 5-10 different shades in their kit. But I have 3. Dark, medium and light. I usually get clients who are a Medium but if not then i mix them accordingly to get the closest shade.

I carry a few ranges, 5-7 shades in each range. Foundation to suit oily skin, dry skin and mature skin, as not the same foundation will work on all different skin types. I find 5-7 colours, some cool toned, some warm and a light and a dark so you can mix and match and customise the colour

I use the entire MUFE foundation range. HD is good for normal skin, if skin is overly dry I actually add a pump of MUFE face & body as it just adds a bit more of a glow and doesn't show dryness. And for oily skin I use MAtte +

I usually have about 20-25 different foundation colors. I carry the Cinema Secrets foundation palettes, they have 5 shades a palette and last forever! I am constantly mixing to get the right color! They are perfect! RCMA, Kryolan, and Graftobian all have great pro foundation palettes!

I thought I had answered this last week but I guess I didnt..I carry roughly 10 shades of 3 different formulas of foundations. I de-can't them into smaller squeeze bottles so they're less heavy and take up less room. I mix for in between shades.

Kryolan foundation palette are useful. I'm just starting out my kit and we got the 6 basic shades but one of my teacher has the 12 shades palette and she says she hardly use the other 6 shades in her palette.

The key is having the right primers to adjust skin tone, that way you don't have to worry so much about matching undertones. I keep a neutral light, medium and dark and then an extra fair and an extra dark just in case. And mix them to adjust the shade. Mac has a black and a white additive that you can add to foundation to adjust the lightness and darkness but I think they're to drastic. This system works well for me.

There are also some pro lines like Kryolan and Ben Nye and a few others than sell foundation kits and concealer kits. They usually come in pancake form which is nice for storage, but its a little harder to keep sanitary.

I keep about 10 as of right now. And you also have to be sure that you have some for oily, combination and dry skin. Its more cost effective if you buy the foundation kits. Concealer kits as well.
