This formulation contains 100% pure Sea-Buckthorn Fruit oil that is sustainably-sourced, organic, unrefined and virgin in origin. This exceptional Sea-Buckthorn Fruit oil is derived from the pulp of the Sea-Buckthorn berry. This oil contains a high concentration of rare palmitoleic acid (Omega 7) for nourishing & protecting the skin. It also offers other fatty acids like palmitic acid, stearic acid, oleic acid, linolenic acid and linoleic acid as well as antioxidants like tocopherol (Vitamin E), carotenoids and lycopene that all help to protect the skin from free radical damage and to maintain the skin’s normal barrier function.
Mix a few drops with other treatments in the palm of your hand and apply to the face, ideally at bedtime after application of water-based treatments. Wash hands after application and avoid product contact with fabric as it may stain.
This Sea-Buckthorn Fruit oil is completely unrefined and imparts a natural scent due to its high palmitoleic acid (Omega-7) content. This scent is not an indication of rancidity. Sea-Buckthorn Fruit oil that does not have scent is likely to have been highly refined and, therefore, would contain less active compounds and would likely offer impaired benefits.
No, it does not. The formula's intense natural orange-red hue is due to its high carotenoids and lycopene content. After application, the color of this oil will remain on your skin until it is washed off.

This oil has been an amazing addition to my nightly oil layer. I do dilute it with other oils, but I have also applied it full strength without any negative effects. In my opinion it works best mixed in with other oils to help deliver it to the skin. It is the exact color of the picture, and even using one drop mixed with two drops of another oil my face does get an orange tint (so I would say this is a night time only oil). Overall this oil is lightweight and quickly absorbed, does not break me out and makes my skin so soft, definitely recommended and as always love the great price that The Ordinary provides quality product for.
So far so good! I think it's helping with redness from rosacea and keeping my skin hydrated. Make sure you dilute this product! I only add 1 drop to my regular moisturizer, mix it well, add 2 drops of the Borage oil, mix well, then apply on face and neck. My skin feels so good with this combo! (for moisturizer I'm using Murad Nutrient Charged Water Gel)
Ok beautylish, I’m going to need you to give a stronger warning about the color. “YOUR FACE WILL LOOK LIKE A PUMPKIN” would be more appropriate. I briefly read the box, to which it only suggests to use the oil at night. Well I thought, sure whatever, but it’s morning and I want to try my new oil. So I haphazardly drop it in my hand and thought “huh, that’s a bright color, I’m sure the color will disappear after I rub it in.” NOPE! I looked like a dang pumpkin at 9am no matter how much I rubbed. I was going to wash it off but I’m not a quitter. So I start slathering on every other colorless oil I owned and slowly but surely the color lessened and I was able to leave the house with my dignity intact. Aside from the color mishap, the texture is nice, the oil absorbs quickly, and even though the odor is interesting, it’s not offensive. A nice oil I will use only at night now.
Winter is coming and this oil helps with my dry, cracked lips. I put this before my Burt’s Bees lip spf during the day. This oil has red-orange tint so it doubles as lip tint. You can also use this to alter the color of your lipstick/matte gloss products if you want more red-orange hue or find your gloss finish feels dry on your lips. At night, I use this oil before my Lucas Paw Paw and so far this combo works in keeping my lips looking it’s best. While color residue is welcomed on my lips, I’m unsure of the tint it left on my skin. I put a few drops into my Biologique Recherche Masque Vivant weekly mask for added hydration. So far this seems ok on my face albeit the orange residue. But it’s washcloth removable with the mask. I personally won’t put this oil by itself or mixed with moisturizer on my skin overnight except on my lips.
I am 45 and have normal to dry skin with patches of oiliness, redness on the apples of my cheeks. I bought this out of curiosity to see if it would help with redness and softness and I added ut as the final step of my evening routine. After the initial laughter at looking at the extrodiarily tall Oompah-loompah that was staring back at me from my mirror, I decided to continue using the product night after night.
I used the product nightly for about 3 weeks and took a 1 week break while traveling b/c I didn't want to stain hotel bedding. My skin is much softer in the morning after using the oil, something that changed slightly during my week off but quickly reverted back to soft when I began using it again. I don't notice any change in the redness. The only downside (hence the 4 stars) is the color, ORANGE, which will stain everything. By morning the oil has absorbed and the orange is (mostly) gone, except from your pillowcase. If there is another oil that renders the same results and is non-staining, use it, if not, use this and have a sense of humor about it. One day, if push comes to shove, I know that there is work for me and my soft skin in a Chocolate Factory. P.S. apply with a brush. It will stain your nails and cuticles.
This is just the most amazing oil ever! It helps with my hormonal acne heal. I use it only at night before I go to bed, definitely makes my face look like a bad self tanner application. When i wake up, the tint is no longer present. I recommend using as part of anyone's routine as it is full of flavonoids which are a key ingredient for great skin.
So normally, I mix 4 drops of marula oil into my moisturizer morning and night. Tonight, I ran out of marula and decided to open and use my box of this instead.
I immediately looked like I was attempting to impersonate our president’s complexion. There’s no way I can wear this to bed, let alone during the day. Hard pass!
Maybe I could use this mixed into my body moisturizer, but not my face. Maybe if you have a much deeper skintone than I do, but I’m super pale (CoverFX N1), so this will not go on my face again.
